Early childhood education serves as a way to transition your child from home to school.
Preschool should be a preparation for learning. At Leap n’ Learn, we believe that it is our job to develop a child’s creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. During the preschool years, children develop characteristics which will affect their lifelong love of learning. The reason we strive to teach through the use of the Multiple Intelligence theory is that by discovering a child’s talents (their strengths), and teaching to their weakness, we create well rounded students.
All of our programs strive develop a child’s disposition to learn by enabling a child’s ability to sustain an interest in an activity, to feel secure at school and to be able to work in the classroom environment and to learn how and when to listen.
We offer the following programs for the 2017/2018 school year:

Jr. Preschool (3yr olds)
Leap n’ Learn three-year old program. Children must be three by the 30th of September. (If spaces remain after the beginning of the school year, we accept children on an ongoing basis throughout the year as they turn three.)
Children will develop a strong knowledge of self and self-esteem, the ability to take turns and an understanding of how a classroom works. Your child will learn problem solving skills, conflict management, and proper behavior when he or she spends time with other children. The importance of schedule and structure is introduced and children begin to learn the necessity for time management. Letter and number literacy, shapes, colors, patterning, daily calendar, arts, crafts, Handwriting Without Tears (without workbook), story time and free play (centre time) are just some of the great aspects of this program.
Sr. Preschool (4yr olds)
For the September, 2016 school year, Children must be four by March 1st, 2016 for Calgary schools and by December 31, 2016 for Okotoks schools.
Sr. Preschool readies a child for the structure of a formal school setting, being open and ready to learning new things and to the Kindergarten experience. The importance of schedule and structure is continued in Sr. Preschool and children begin to learn the necessity of time management, making it a much easier transition into the Kindergarten setting. Aspects of this program include reading readiness, literacy and storytelling, math readiness, art, crafts, music, science, introduction to French, Handwriting Without Tears (including workbook) and learning and exploring through play and learning about the community through theme based curriculum and hands on experiences. All of our programs will benefit from visitors from the community whenever possible, firefighters, policemen, doctors, nurses, dentists, pilots, optometrists, etc.
Junior Kindergarten (three mornings or afternoons/week)
Children must be attending Kindergarten in September 2017 and should be four by December 31st, 2016. Some exceptions made in the Calgary schools if child is turning 4 by March 1st, 2016 and attending kindergarten in September 2017.This specific program’s higher level of academic activities include focus on reading readiness; letter recognition, letter sounds, sight words and handwriting, as well as incorporating math, science and art and music throughout the day. Kindergartens are changing more and more each year; their expectations are increasing as to what a child should know before beginning school. The preschool experience readies a child for the structure of a formal school setting, being open and ready to learning new things and to the Kindergarten experience; Junior Kindergarten does this too, as well as setting a child up for success specifically in Kindergarten and is planned with this in mind. It is planned to assist children in flourishing academically and socially. The children are confident when they enter Kindergarten. Concepts they are learning are already familiar to them. They are reinforcements of what they are already beginning to feel certain about. Children who are confident socially and academically become more willing to take healthy risks in the classroom setting.
QUESTION OFTEN ASKED:What if I am uncertain if my child will attend kindergarten in September of 2017?ANSWER: We have a three & four year old combined class that is a great option for these children.
